One of the 13 Regions of Greece and among the largest in area, it includes Achaia, Ilia, and Aetolia-Acarnania. It covers an area of 11,336 km² and, according to the 2011 census, has a population of 643,000 residents. The largest city and capital of the region is Patras.
The Region of Western Greece has a Human Development Index of 0.861, the sixth highest in the country.
The region’s Gross Domestic Product was €8.3 billion in 2018, representing 4.5% of the Greek economy.
Since September 1, 2019, the Regional Governor has been Nektarios Farmakis.
