Runners share their thoughts on the Patras Half Marathon

The first Patras Half Marathon which took place last spring left participants filled with enthusiasm. As we gear up for the upcoming second Patras Half Marathon scheduled for April 7th, we’ve reached out to some of last year’s participants to gather their impressions and inquire about their potential participation this year.

Their comments were uplifting and bring us joy. They spoke positively about the organization, the atmosphere, the route, and the overall experience they had.

Specifically:

Nikodemos Nikolakeas, athlete of “AEP Olympias”: The race was an unforgettable experience! The organization was impeccable and the attention to detail made all the difference. From start to finish I felt that everything was prepared with care. I will definitely participate in the next race as well.

Panayiotis Dionisakopoulos, athlete of “A.O. PELOPS” of Patras on long distances: The race exceeded my expectations. The energy of the team, the smiling volunteers and the beautiful route made the race unique.

Antonis Katsikis, president of “SMACH Phidippides” – winner of the Ancient Olympia and Messina marathons: The quality of the event was evident, and the organizers’ efforts to make a difference, even in the inaugural event, did not go unnoticed. Everything was excellent. Needless to say, this year, a large contingent of runners from “Phidippides” will join Patras Half Marathon once again.

Christos Koutroumpas, athlete of “A.O. PELOPS” of Patras on long distances: The organization of the race was excellent, featuring high-level athletes and a flat course conducive to records for runners of all levels! See you all on April 7, 2024!

Maria Tsirou, primary school teacher: I’m looking forward to the 2nd Half Marathon in Patras on April 7th! I had a great time last year. I hope everyone will be there for this celebration of sports!

George Dalianis, freelancer – Biomedical technology engineer: The rhythm from the bands along the route, the support from the volunteers, the products from the sponsors in the bags, the pasta party… Everything was superb. I’m eagerly anticipating this year’s event.

Stavros Yiannakopoulos, long and ultra distance runner: The organization made sure nothing was missing. From start to finish, it was perfectly coordinated. Without a doubt, I’ll be there again this year!

Maria Varvitsioti, long distance runner: The race was very beautiful, filled with happy faces of all ages. The organization, the volunteers, and the crowd supporting the athletes created a vibrant atmosphere in our city. And this year, we will fill our city again and show our love for sports! I’ll be there on April 7th at King George ‘s Square.

With the same passion and dedication that drove us last year, we continue forward, confident that this year will bring about beautiful experiences and unforgettable running moments. We invite you to join us in the joy of participating in a celebration of running sports

At the grand celebration of the Authentic Athens Marathon, the 2nd International Patras Half Marathon is present. The Patras Half Marathon has a booth at the OPAP MARATHON EXPO 2023 at the  Faliro Indoor Hall & Exhibition Centre (former TaeKwonDo Venue). There, enthusiasts of classical sports and running have the opportunity to learn about the significant meeting in Patras next spring and secure a spot in the major running event, as registrations are currently open.

The race is hosted at the booth of the Region of Western Greece and will operate until Saturday afternoon. Visitors have the chance to obtain informative material.

Our presence at the “Marathon Expo” reflects our dedication to promoting running sports and fostering the development of an audience that encourages a love for athletics. We want to thank all the visitors who stop by our booth and express their interest in the 2nd Patras Half Marathon.

Patras Half Marathon supports the empowerment of the running movement participating in running events domestic and around Greece. Today, supporting “Run Greece Patras”, a stand was set up in Georgiou A square informing runners and spectators about the 2nd Half Marathon on April 7th 2024.

Fans of sports and runners were informed about the international meeting that will take place next spring. We were given the opportunity to share our enthusiasm for sports and meet runners with the same interest in healthy living and physical activity.

Calli Thackery was crowned the UK half marathon champion at The Big Half in London on Sunday 3 September. She delivered an outstanding performance with a time of 1:09:15.

Hip hip hurray for Calli!

Patras was her lucky run since she thrived in the 1st Patras Half Marathon race with the incredible score 1.10.24, the best time ever in a half Marathon race in Greece.

Her quotes about the hospitality, the organization, the safety and the picturesque track along the seafront of Patras are greatly treasured by the Organizational Committee.

Patras Half Marathon Pasta Party by Masoutis supermarkets

On Saturday, April 8 at 19:30 in Esperos (21 Georgiou Square) Patras is getting into the rhythm of the Patras Half Marathon. All runners invited from all over Greece and abroad will be there.

A meal rich in carbohydrates is indicated on the eve of a long distance race.

So, in the opening ceremony of the event, let’s all come together and enjoy a pasta marathon from the sponsor of the event, Super Markets “Masoutis”.

The heart of the 1st Patras International Half Marathon beats in PELOPONNISOS newspaper premises.

The secretariat of the event and the delivery of the race kit to the participants will be hosted at the premises of the newspaper PELOPONNISOS on 206 Maizonos Street and Papaflessa in Patras.

The publishing group of the oldest regional newspaper opens its doors to welcome more than 2,200 runners from Greece and abroad in the foyer lounge.

The secretariat will operate on the following days and hours:

Friday 7/4, 16:00 – 21:00

Saturday 8/4, 10:00 – 18:00

We would like to remind all who want to subscribe that the registration platform will remain open until Tuesday, April 4.

The secretariat will also operate on the day of the race at Plateia Georgiou (King George A’ Square)  from 7:30 ONLY for the runners who have completed registration and demonstrate  the official email of the event (electronically or in print) where their participation number is indicated.

No new registrations will be enlisted at the day of the race.

The Greek Veteran Athletic Association of Patras, always at the forefront of the sports movement, is added to the list of institutional supporters of the 1st Patras International Half Marathon!

A moving gesture that the organization highly values the support of the veterans, the athletes who built the edifice of athletics with their personal life commitment and continuous effort.

GVAA Patras completes 30 years in action, in 1994. A group of retired athletes and friends of classical sports formed the core of the Association. Among them Antonis Kanellopoulos, Dionysios and Nikos Balasis, Thanasis Siozos, Panagiotis Mendzelopoulos, Mavra Papalamprou, Spagadoros, Sotiris Athanasopoulos and more.

The Association organizes local competitions, regional and pan-Hellenic championships with great appeal and success. Its athletes, even participate in pan-European and world championships for veterans. The Association has been awarded, many distinctions being on the top of Veterans’ Athletic Associations.

Patras Port Authority SA supports as strategic partner the 1st Patras International Half Marathon. The athletes  are running alongside the seafront of the city, where the facilities of the port are located, being the main Western Gate of the country, commuting passengers and commodities. The Port of Patras dominates the Western Port System of Greece and has always had specific characteristics:

It serves passenger and commercial services in Southern and Central Greece. Its contribution to the economic, social and cultural development of the region and the country over time was and remains significant.

It belongs to Ports of International Interest (Category K1). It is a member of the Trans-European Transport Network and the central network as categorized for the period 2014-2050.

The strategy of Patras Port Organization focuses a) on maintaining and strengthening the leadership position among the ports of Western Greece as the most important Western Gateway of the country,

b) on its dynamic strategies to attract the interest the tourist market by emerging as a tourist port (Mega Yachts, cruise) and c) to expand into new markets (e.g. containers, etc.).

In this context, actions taken are the following:

a) to strengthen an extrovert plan of cooperation between the ports of the Adriatic sea in matters of the port industry

b) to develop new business activities aiming at the upgrading of the competitiveness of the port and its contribution to integrated multimodal maritime transport and

c) to develop initiatives and its active participation in the port industry sector in the new Macro – Adriatic – Ionian Region of the EU.

The support the Port Organization a key player in the development and prosperity of the region to the event of the Patras International Half Marathon, further broadens the vision of establishing and international athletic institution that will attract athletes and spectators from all over Greece and abroad as s “premier legue” running event.
