VOLUNTEERING

The concept of volunteering is associated with solidarity, selfless contribution, and active engagement in public life. It is not merely a term, but a way of life that strengthens social cohesion, solidarity, and the protection of fundamental rights.
Volunteering is one of the key pillars of the Patras Half Marathon. The volunteer program aims to involve citizens in the main operational areas of the event.

Volunteer Roles

  • Registration Center – Race Secretariat (Peloponnisos newspaper & Georgiou Square)
  • Venue setup (Georgiou Square)
  • Race starts (Georgiou Square)
  • Finish area (Georgiou Square)
  • Clothing/bag storage (Georgiou Square)
  • Aid stations (along the course)
  • Course safety (intersections along the route)
  • Runner support and encouragement

PATRAS HALF MARATHON VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

  1. General Participation Principles
  • Volunteers are those who have submitted the online application and received a placement confirmation email.
  • Each volunteer participates of their own free will.
  • By submitting the application, the volunteer fully accepts all program terms.
  • The personal information provided must be accurate.
  • Participation in the volunteer program does not constitute an employment relationship, but a personal choice to contribute.
  1. Age Criteria
  • Adults and minors from the first year of junior high school (13 years old and above) may participate.
  • Minors participate through a school/group or are accompanied by an adult volunteer.
  • In such cases, the application is submitted by the group coordinator or a parent/guardian.
  1. Personal Data
  • By submitting an application, personal data is used solely for the purposes of the event.
  • If the application is submitted by a third person, it is assumed that the participant consents to the processing of their data.
  • Volunteers acknowledge that their data will be forwarded to the event’s insurance provider for accident coverage.
  1. Photography & Use of Image
  • Volunteers consent to being photographed and recorded while performing their duties.
  • They authorize the use of their image by the organizers, sponsors, and partners for publicity purposes without financial compensation.
  1. Apparel & Accreditation
  • Volunteers must wear the official event apparel and accreditation during their shift.
  • Apparel and accreditation are collected upon presentation of an ID card.
  • Pickup by a third party is allowed only with prior written notification.
  • Accreditation is personal and non-transferable.
  • If a volunteer is unable to participate, accreditation must be returned to the Volunteer Team.
  1. Volunteer Placement
  • Placement is determined based on the needs of the event and in coordination with the Race Operations Department.
  • Volunteer preferences are taken into consideration where feasible.
  • The Organizing Committee may assign morning and afternoon shifts.
  • Volunteers must report to their assigned position and may not change it without approval from the Volunteer Office or their team leader.
  1. Duties During Service
  • Volunteers must strictly follow the instructions of their team leader or station supervisor.
  • They must promptly notify organizers of any absence.
  • They must handle event materials responsibly and according to given instructions.
  1. Certificate of Participation
  • A certificate is issued to volunteers who successfully complete their assigned duties.
  • Volunteers must sign the team attendance sheet upon departure.
  • If assigned to two positions or shifts, they must sign each attendance sheet.
  • The certificate is emailed to volunteers a few days after the event.
