The 1st International Half Marathon of Achaia is upgrading its safety services to all runners and welcomes the assistance of the Western Achaia Volunteer Rescuers – Firefighters Corps, which are institutional supporters. 

The volunteers of Western Achaia decided to provide security services for the event engaging a fire truck and three certified volunteers. The main objective of SEDIP Western Achaia is the protection of the environment, human life and property. 

An additional goal is to promote the iniciatives of the volunteer party, so as other potential volunteer firefighters can participate  In November 2011, a subsidiary of E.S.E.P.A. was established. by the Deputy Mayor of Civil Protection of the Municipality of Western Achaia, Mr. Kanellopoulos Kanellos.

In May 2012, the first fire engines arrived as well as the personal equipment of the volunteer firefighters. At the same time, the 18 volunteers were trained on forest firefighting contigencies. In February 2013, thanks to private donations and the individual efforts of volunteers, the first volunteer fire and rescue station was created. In 2014, S.E.D.I.P was founded as.. i.e. the Corps of Volunteer Rescuers – Firefighters of Western Achaia. Anyone who has reached the age of eighteen, considered thus an adult, can become a volunteer. Also important for volunteers is to have skills to face any danger upon action. Some of these skills are: composure, accurate and speedy reaction, boldness, efficient physical condition and social awareness. The volunteer firefighters of S.E.D.I.P. Western Achaia are residents of Achaia. They are the next door heroes, fellow citizens working in the morning and devoting time to train and face any emergency.
