AO Pegasus Mpegoulakiou, institutional supporter of the Patras Half Marathon

AO Pegasus Mpegoulakiou provides its volunteers to support the conduct of the race and to provide necessary assistance to athletes and spectators.

AO Pegasus Mpegoulakiou was founded in 1981 in one of the largest neighborhoods in Patras, Mpegoulaki, by local residents who saw the need for sports and cultural events in the area’s youth. From 1981 to the present, it has participated in all football and basketball championships, and since September 2018, the club’s academy has been operational again, with 210 children of various ages.

From 2014 to the present, AO Pegasus Mpegoulakiou has carried out extensive social work through various activities, as the club operates a «Team of offering and love» a special team dedicated to social events. The club’s social actions include:

  • Eight (08) Voluntary Blood Donations for the club’s blood bank.
  • Providing graphic material and school equipment to ten (10) schools in Patras.
  • Monetary donation from a football match’s proceeds to the Parents’ Association of Children with Neoplastic Diseases “FLOGA”.
  • Providing clothing, footwear, and baby equipment (cradles, children’s chairs, toys) to the Protection Society for Unborn Children.
  • Providing food to the Parish of the Holy Apostles of Mpegoulaki to meet the needs of poor families.
  • Clothing donation to impoverished families.
  • Dispensing 120 blood bottles to injured athletes and patients from the club’s blood bank, which is the ONLY amateur sports club blood bank in Greece.
  • Donating food, money, and essential items to the “Ark of Love” foundation.
  • Assisting individuals with health problems, injury rehabilitation, and chronic problems with severe injuries and therapies.
  • Humanitarian aid (food, clothing) in the Karditsa area following natural disasters.

Also, since 2018, the club has developed a scientific sports program for children with special needs titled “Love soccer – be a player”. Specifically, speech therapists, specialized gymnasts for people with special needs, and occupational therapists provide these children with the opportunity to engage with soccer and sports, to join within a sports team framework, and to get to know the football field up close. This pioneering program is the only one implemented in Greece within a football academy framework, and the club has attached particular importance to it.
